What is CranioSacral Therapy?
CranioSacral Therapy (CST) is a gentle, but powerful treatment that acts through the central nervous system. It helps to release tensions deep in the body to relieve pain and dysfunction and improve whole body health and performance.
What is the CranioSacral system?
Few body structures have more influence over your health and well- being than the central nervous system. And few body systems have more impact on your central nervous system than the craniosacral system – which consists of the bones, soft tissue and fluid that surrounds your brain and spinal cord.
How could CranioSacral Therapy benefit me?
Every day we endure stresses and strains that our body absorbs. But it can only handle so much tension before our tissues begin to tighten or change. Other experiences, from physical injuries to emotional trauma can create or add to these restrictions. These may radiate out from the craniosacral system and compromise the function of the central nervous system.
Craniosacral techniques can release these tensions to allow the entire body to relax and self-correct. By freeing the central nervous system to perform at its best, CST can relieve pain and dysfunction from many sources, often uncovering and addressing the deeper causes of our symptoms. The types of problems we find people seek treatment for include stress and tension related disorders, musculoskeletal pain, migraines and headaches, brain and spinal cord injuries as well as many acute and chronic conditions.
SomatoEmotional techniques can also be integrated into treatments if appropriate. SomatoEmotional Release is a therapeutic process that uses and expands on the principles of craniosacral therapy to help rid the mind and body of the residual effects of trauma and negative emotional events.
Although CST can be useful as a preventative therapy to keep us in optimal health, it is not a substitute for proper medical advice.
What can I expect from a session?
A session can last an hour or more, and you remain fully clothed. I begin by gently touching various parts of your body to evaluate the rhythm and motion of the craniosacral system. By carefully listening with the hands to the whole body I can locate areas of restriction and trace their origin. Since craniosacral therapy is not prescriptive in its approach, I will always work by listening to and following what it feels your body tissues need to do, whatever condition you may be experiencing
Delicate, precise and effective manual techniques are then used to help release any problem areas. It can be used alone or integrated with other therapies.
